Institute affiliate Jessica Schleider publishes op-ed in the L.A. Times about regulating social platforms to protect kids

An adolescent psychologist who researches scalable digital mental health interventions, Prof. Schleider argues that bans are ineffective and shift responsibility away from technology companies. This is especially important in light of ongoing trials, where plaintiffs are arguing that the safety risks and exploitation of young people are built into the design of social media platforms. In addition to regulating algorithms and creating enforcement mechanisms, Schleider discusses the importance of investing in evidence-based digital mental health supports to meet youth where they already are online.
