Courtney K. Blackwell, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Social Sciences at the Feinberg School of Medicine. Her research is at the intersection of measurement and pediatric neurodevelopment, with a particular interest in identifying malleable psychosocial and lifestyle exposures that influence youth mental health and well-being. She is particularly interested in the role of digital media in the lives of youth and how engagement with social media shapes and is shaped by adolescent mental health. Dr. Blackwell has served as scientific director, lead developmental methodologist, and/or key co-investigator on multiple large-scale NIH grants and contracts, and through these roles, she has contributed significantly to a developmentally informed “downward” extension of large NIH-sponsored assessment systems (e.g., PROMIS® and NIH Toolbox®), enabling these widely used measures to be applied across the lifespan for the first time.
