Dr. Darius Tandon is a tenured Professor at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. His research focuses on the development and testing of interventions to reduce the burden of mental illness on families in the perinatal period and into early childhood, with a particular emphasis on preventive interventions integrated into community-based settings. In particular, he has been PI or Co-I of several randomized controlled trials demonstrating the efficacy of the Mothers and Babies group and 1-on-1 intervention on preventing the worsening of depressive symptoms and onset of major depression. Many of the families served by Mothers and Babies are adolescents and young adults. Dr. Tandon has also conducted research examining interventions aimed at promoting the mental health of “opportunity youth” aged 16-24 who are disconnected from school and the workforce. Dr. Tandon currently serves as the Director of Northwestern’s Center for Community Health and is the Intervention Science Division Chief in the Department of Medical Social Sciences.
